What is a Stroke?
A stroke happens when the blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die within minutes.

Symptoms of Stroke
Think FAST for warning signs:
- Face drooping – One side of the face may droop or feel numb.
- Arm weakness – One arm may feel weak or numb.
- Speech difficulty – Slurred speech or trouble speaking.
- Time to call emergency services – Immediate action is crucial!

Other symptoms can include:
- Sudden confusion
- Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Dizziness or loss of balance
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
Treatment for Stroke
Treatment depends on the type of stroke:
1. Ischemic Stroke (caused by a blood clot)
- Clot-busting drugs: Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) can dissolve clots if given within a few hours.
- Mechanical thrombectomy: A device removes the clot from the brain blood vessel.
- Blood thinners: To prevent new clots.
2. Hemorrhagic Stroke (caused by bleeding)
- Emergency surgery: To stop bleeding and relieve pressure on the brain.
- Medications: To control blood pressure, bleeding, and brain swelling.
Recovery
- Physical therapy: To regain movement and strength.
- Speech therapy: If speaking was affected.
- Occupational therapy: To relearn daily activities.
- Medications: To prevent future strokes.
